Westinghouse Lcd Monitors

Westinghouse Digital is a less known LCD manufacturer, but the first Westinghouse invention was a rotary steam engine, patented way back in 1865 by George Westinghouse. In 1881 he (George Westinghouse) perfected the life-saving railroad block signal, in 1886 he founded the Westinghouse Electric Company and tens of inventions later died (like a real inventor, with drawings of a revolutionary electric wheelchair in his hands) in 1914, leaving behind 361 patents and 60 companies.
Westinghouse Digital first entered the LCD monitor market in 2006, with high quality products for both computers and home entertainment (LCD-TVs). Today there are 10 types of Westinghouse LCD monitors available, starting from 16” to 26”.

The Westinghouse L1610NW LCD monitor has all the basic characteristics of a HD Ready screen: 1366 x 768 wide screen resolution, 8ms response time and D-sub (VGA) connectivity. Please note that this last part, the analog VGA connector may cause some problems in the near future, because cable TV service providers are beginning to disable analog output ports on their digital receivers to prevent piracy, so for the role of LCD-TV it’s not recommended:

The three 19” Westinghouse LCD monitors on the other hand are very well equipped for the future, they all have integrated speakers and DVI-D ports, so they can be easily connected to any computer or digital TV receiver that has a DVI or HDMI output. All three monitors adopted traditional resolutions 1280 x 1024, 1440 x 900 and 1680 x 1050 with 16:10 and 4:3 aspect ratios, while today’s trend is 16:9.

Westinghouse Digital also made a strange 20.1” LCD monitor with a 1400 by 1050 resolution. The aspect ratio is still 4:3, but not many games, movies or software are released in this resolution.

The other five Westinghouse LCD monitors are a step closer to LCD-TVs. While they don’t have integrated TV-Tuners, nor remote controls, they do have analog video signal inputs (Composite, S-Video and YpbPr).

The great thing about these wide screen monitors is that they are based on 16:10 aspect resolutions also. The 22” models have 1680 by 1050 resolutions, while 24” and 26” models support resolutions up to 1920 by 1200.

Westinghouse made products with 16:9 aspect ratio too, in fact these represent the big majority of Westinghouse LCD-TV products. It was a wise choice to keep 16:9 aspect resolution exclusively for the entertainment sector, because today all movies come in HD resolutions that fit perfectly in these screens. Only in the not so near future will the upcoming 2:1 aspect ratio be adopted.

These LCD-TVs range from 26” to 52” and include ECO and LED categories, but the most advanced model is a 42” 120Hz LCD-TV (TX-42F970Z) that supports the latest shutter-glass based 3D technologies.
