Two Cheap Gaming Computer Cases

Professional gamers like to run games in highest possible detail on their computers, so they need some very powerful hardware for that, hardware that is priced somewhere in the range of $2000-$20000. Exactly one part of the whole gaming computer system has very little to do with performance, and that is the computer case. Users in general like to spend extra on this least important part of the computer, because it has to fit its surrounding (furniture and the other external parts of the computer like the monitor, printer, keyboard, mouse …etc.).

From a technical point of view any well-ventilated ATX case will do the job. Cases costing just around $50 (while gamers usually spend a few hundred on it) support the ultimate 3-way or 4-way SLI and Crossfire configurations. That being said, let’s take a look at two new computer cases made by Spire and Colorful.

The Spire Savit 6003 full ATX computer case weighs 6.2kg and measures 48cm x 19cm x 45cm, just a few centimeters bigger (in height and depth) than a standard cheap ATX computer case which usually measures 40cm x 18cm x 40cm (and naturally weighs a lot less). This extra space inside isn’t used for extra 5.25” or 3.5” bays however, but for additional cooling fans.

As you can see the power supply it has been moved to the bottom of the case, a very smart move, considering the amount of heat gaming power supplies generated nowadays. A 1000Watt power supply with 80+ efficiency factor will still produce 200Watts of heat, while low-end 300-400Watt power supplies generate only 30-50Watts of heat. These large gaming power supplies have their internal fans on the bottom, so Spire had to make a lot of ventilation holes under it. This is an ideal situation, because the coolest air is sucked in from the bottom and a big part of it enters directly into the power supply, having a much better cooling effect than in computer cases with the power supply in the top. Spire implemented a large fan where the power supply used to be and also in the front-bottom part of the case, so the hottest air in the case may exit quickly instead of building up and cool air may enter in the front with the same flow. This computer case manufactured by Spire will soon be available for $80 or 60 EUROs.

The Raynor Tower made by Colorful is a much cheaper solution and it also offers a lot more space for extra fans inside. It weighs 8kg and measures 49cm x 19cm x 51cm, which is pretty impressive if we look at the price, only $60.

The basic concept is the same as with the other case made by Spire, it has ventilation holes on the bottom (for the power supply too) and a big fan (or at least mounting holes for it) on the top of the back plate.

In addition Colorful implemented two more large fans on the top of the case, giving it an extra cooling power with the proper fans being installed on it.
