How LCD Monitors Work

A monitor it is practically a TV without the reception part and it’s used in closed TV circuits such as airports  to view far lands and that’s why it doesn’t need to need to receive and process any TV signals. In these cases the video signals come through wires from the surveillance cameras in the closed circuit. In extension, the monitor – also known as screen, display and sometimes video device – is the peripheral equipment of the computer on which the information displays and the communication between user and computer is made.

The first monitors could display only text type information available in only two colors – green, red or yellow on a black background, also on a gray or white background. The monitors today are able to display moving images with billion color tones.




Let me tell you how do LCD monitors work. LCD means liquid crystal display; the LCD monitors follow a different type of rules set compared to the CRT (cathode ray tube) monitors offering advantages in terms of space, ergonomics, power, the image refresh rate which often causes head and eye ache for a CRT monitor user, also the perfect geometry. Also the LCD monitors have disadvantages on the price which is higher then CRT monitors, the visibility angle or the accuracy to display colors.

An LCD monitor has three electron tubes for each color whose electronic flows must be perfectly convergent for a clear image. Thanks to the way the image forms on an LCD monitor, these don’t have focusing problems, each cell opens and closes independently. There’s a reason for why the text appears better on an LCD monitor; there are none refresh rate problems on an LCD monitor, it’s cells  are either stop or start, thereby the displayed images at 40 to 60 Hz refresh rates are as clear as the ones at 75 Hz.




The LCD monitor have some elements that are not found inside a CRT monitor. The panels are illuminated by fluorescent tubes that are behind the panels. Also unlike a CRT monitor, the LCD monitors don’t emit radiations therefore being the best for persons that spend a lot of time in front of them.

So how do LCD monitors work ? The liquid crystals inside them are arranged like a sandwich between pieces of polarized glass. The fluorescent light that we talked about earlier emits light that goes through the first substrate. The electrical charge makes the crystal cells align allowing different tones of light to pass through that second substrate. The result are the fabulous colors that are displayed on your screen. So no more cathode tubes, no more radiation, no more head or eyes aches. So when you’re having doubts the next time you want to change that old CRT monitor that clearly occupies the whole desk, you will think twice on the advantages of the LCD monitors, even if their price is sometimes four times the price of your CRT monitor, you’ll see the difference in the future. So make the right choice: LCD yes, CRT no.
