The computers had developed so much in the last decades, and today they had become a part of our lives. So many activities and jobs are directly related to computer and internet, so we can’t even imagine how the world would have been today without the existence of the computers. In some ways it would have been a better life, but definitely a much more difficult one, because computers really make our work easier in so many domains.

Any computer has essential components such as: the central unit (which has all the internal components – motherboard, processor, hard drive, RAM memory, video card, sound card, cooler etc) and the monitor. It also has accessories such as: the mouse, the keyboard, the speakers, the printer, scanner, webcam, microphone and so on. This is the physical part of the computer, which we can see and touch – and it is called the hardware part. But there is also the software part, which is composed out of all the programs and data that are stocked into your computer. One of the most important software is the operating system, which is necessary for any computer. Either if we are using a version of Windows, Ubuntu or Mac OS X we all need an operating system to make our day to day computer activities.

Since so many millions of people are using a computer, this topic had become something usual in our discussions. Either if we want to ask for help about some computer issues, or to ask for an opinion on which computer to buy, or simply to discuss anything that is related with the computers we can always join one of the many computer forums found on the internet. All you have to do here is to join the forum by becoming a member, and then discuss the topics that are already opened by others, or start a new topic.

So now let’s present some of these forums, and say a few words about each of them. We’ll begin with http://www.computerforums.org/ which is quite a famous forum, and we can tell this be looking at the number of threads and posts. Many of the topics have thousands of posts, and the one with the most of them has 395,862 posts in 47,562 threads. This is the “Hardware” topic. The next one has 363,839 posts in 18,020 threads. The funny thing is that even though this is a computer forum, the topic with the second highest number of posts is the “Social Lounge”, the one where people discuss about anything else rather than computers . The other computer related topics from this forum are: “Server administration”, “programming”, “networking”, “security / hacking”, “Software”, “gallery”, “overclocking / cooling / modding” and other non-computer related topics are: “suggestions, comment and feedback”, “communications / instant messaging”, “for sale / trade” and also “general electrical”. So you can find anything that you are searching for on this forum, in terms on computers and even more than this.

Another one is the http://www.computerforum.com/ . This one also has thousands of posts, and the  most posted ones are the : “Desktop computers” with 204.160 posts in 21.528 threads and the “Off topic chat” with 229.202 posts in 9.018 threads. So here on this forum the non-computer discussions are even higher than the ones about computers. Other topics that you can find here are : laptops and smartphones, motherboards, CPU-s and overclocking, computer cases, power supplies and cooling, computer memory and hard drives, CD / DVD technology, video cards and monitors, sound cards and speakers, computer networking and servers and computer accessories – this were the topics in the “Hardware” chapter. And in the “Software” you can find topics such as “operating systems, computer security, general software and also many other discussions about video games, internet and others.

Let’s discuss just about one more forum for today, and we’ll choose the http://www.tech-forums.net/ . This one has a slightly different design…well at least in the first page. You can select your topic from the bar from the right side of the screen, and only then you will see the classic forum aspect. Among the topics from this forum you can find: building, buying, upgrading for general PC-s, laptops, overclocking, case mod, tweaking PC performance, hardware troubleshooting, Windows operating systems and software, computer networking, internet access, computer audio and multimedia, Linux, BSD, Apple, Mac PS, phones, PDA’s, Bluetooth and many more others.
