The Averatec D1002 all-in-one desktop computer is very similar to iMAC computers of its day, although it’s surely much thicker than the careful Apple computer design. Inside you have a standard LGA775 desktop processor socket with a Core 2 Duo processor installed. The Pentium 4 and Celeron class is probably not accepted by the computer’s motherboard, because they usually require a lot more power than Core 2 Duos.
The configuration I’m looking at came with an Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 2.4GHz processor, which today would fit in the Pentium Dual Core category, as it has a low core clock speed and less cache (just 2MB) than a normal Core 2 Duo processor (3-4MB).

The motherboard’s chipset is a rather advanced one from the Intel G3x family, the G35 Express version. Because we’re talking about a compact computer design, the Averactec D1002 desktop has two SODIMM memory slots. You can install up to 4GB (2 x 2GB) of DDR2 memory, but by default only 2 x 1GB is installed. The hard drive is a standard 320GB 7200RPM 3.5“ desktop hard drive, connected to a SATA2 port. Of course it can be upgraded to at least 1TB capacity. The optical drive is a slot loading slim DVD burner made for laptops, connected to an IDE port. There’s also a 4-in-1 memory card reader and lot of ports, including: Fast Ethernet, 7 x USB 2.0, audio in/out, DVI out, TV Tuner ports. Bluetooth is not supported, but a miniPCI Wi-fi adapter is luckily present.
By now you probably guessed that most of the Averatec D1002 computer’s components are in fact laptop parts, so the MXM II video card type shouldn’t be a surprise. The manufacturer has chosen two video card models from the same manufacturer – nVidia. One is the low end nVidia Geforce 8400GS and the other is its slightly faster brother – the nVidia Geforce 8500GT.

In his particular configuration you have the slower video card model, which is barely capable of playing high definition media on the 22” 1680 x 1050 resolution screen. 3D games are supported up to DirectX 10, but in very low detail and low resolutions. In fact most integrated video chips made in 2011 are faster than this Geforce 8400GS discrete video card. If you're looking to buy an Averatec D1002 all-in-one desktop computer, be sure to choose one with the faster video card, because upgrading it can prove to be problematic. MXM II video cards are hard to come by, and they are also very expensive when compared to standard desktop video cards.
