Screen
There are different screen sizes today, each corresponding to different resolutions. It is an essential feature of the laptop for example because it determines its size and weight. There are eight main types of screen (the letter W in head marks the presence of a screen of the size 16/10).

The main types of screen:
- XGA: maximum resolution of 1024×768. These panels usually equip low-end PCs or those with small screen.
- WXGA: maximum resolution of 1280×800. These are widescreen 15 “4 in general. A preferred if you intend to watch many DVDs, the format is the 16/10. Avoid if you want to play or use it in the office.

- SXGA: maximum resolution of 1280×1024. For screens under 15 “.

- SXGA +: maximum resolution of 1400×1050. Suitable for all types of use, it is certainly the most versatile of the slabs.

- WXGA +: maximum resolution of 1440×900. This is the highest resolution used on the main diagonal.

- WSXGA +: maximum resolution of 1680×1050. These are the best slabs, but also more expensive.

- UXGA: maximum resolution of 1600×1200. Excellent for all types of application.

- WUXGA: maximum resolution of 1920×1200. Here, the laptop`s monitor set a high standard resolution .

The display technologies are almost all similar. Only the surface treatment of the slab (anti-reflective, glossy, etc..) And lighting technologies (tube or diode) varies. The laptops screens remain highly variable in quality, although some parameters differ. Only a test can visually get an idea just before the purchase.

Graphics card
The graphics card is the component that displays images on the screen and, in some cases, to apply 3D effects. It can be built into the chipset (Intel Extreme Graphics, Intel GMA 900 / 950, or M650 SiS740, ATI Mobility Radeon 9100 IGP), which displays the cost and the motivated autonomous higher because of low energy that it consumes. In return, the performance is often lower than those of discrete graphics cards from NVIDIA or ATI, which have the possibility to have a dedicated graphics memory.

The hard disk storage
This is where your documents and the files on the computer are stored. The laptops hard drives are specific: they measure 2 “wide by 5 (instead of 3″ 5) and are less efficient than those of desktops.

Among its features, speed is a fairly reliable indicator of performance (note the increasing consumption). The capacity is expressed in gigabytes as their counterparts dedicated to desktop computers.

Today, a minimum of 40 GB is required for normal use. As for speed, it must be of 5400 rpm to provide a satisfactory level of performance. Some hard drives for laptops operate at 7200 rpm, but they remain a minority and relatively expensive. When buying, do not give importance to the communication interface used. The difference between serial ATA and IDE is not felt.

The sound card
The sound card is used to ensure the processing and dissemination of all the sounds produced by a laptop. It is the only parameter that does not really matter: the sound of a laptop will never be exceptional because the speakers are embedded in good quality. Make sure that a headphone jack is present, this is important if you do not want to disturb people around you.

Writer / optical drive
All laptops are now equipped with at least one handset player-recorder, that is to say CD or DVD that can also burn CDs / DVDs. Finally , make sure the drive is well dual (it is almost always the case), that is to say it can burn DVD + R, DVD + RW, DVD-R and DVD- RW.
